About Dr. Schwartzman
Dr. Alexander Schwartzman is a board-certified surgeon with nearly 40 years of experience in his medical field. Dr. Schwartzman is a Clinical Professor of Surgery as well as the Interim Chair of the Department of Surgery at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. He has earned many awards and honors for his excellence in teaching. Dr. Schwartzman is a member of the New York State Board of Medicine and a Fellow of the Federation of State Medical Boards.
Dr. Schwartzman’s medical expertise includes:
- Hernia repair, including ventral/incisional, inguinal, umbilical, and epigastric
- Gallbladder disease (cholecystectomy)
- Surgical treatment of skin tumors and cysts
- Diseases of the anal area such as hemorrhoids, anal fistulas, anal fissures, anal skin tags
- Surgeries of stomach (gastrectomy) and colon (colectomy)
- Treatment of diseases of the gastrointestinal system including small bowel obstruction, diverticular disease, and colon cancer
- Minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery
