Urodynamics
Urodynamics
Urodynamic testing measures how the bladder fills, holds and empties. Sensors record pressure and flow while the bladder is filled and then emptied, which turns symptoms like urgency, leaking or a weak stream into numbers the urologist can act on.
What to expect
- Office based — performed in the urology suite, usually taking about forty-five minutes.
- Thin catheters — soft catheters and small sensors record the pressures; there is a feeling of pressure and urgency, but the test is not usually painful.
- Reviewed the same day — the traces are gone through with you before you leave, along with the treatment options they point to.
Urodynamics is what separates an overactive bladder from an obstruction or a weak sphincter — three problems that feel similar to the patient and are treated very differently.
