Gastroenterology
Gastroenterology
Digestive symptoms are worth taking seriously, and worth diagnosing properly. Our gastroenterologists evaluate the esophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, and pancreas, and perform endoscopic procedures at our on-site surgery center.
What we treat
- Acid reflux and GERD — including symptoms that have not responded to over-the-counter treatment.
- Abdominal pain, bloating, and changes in bowel habits — working toward a specific diagnosis rather than a label.
- Irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease — long-term management.
- Liver conditions — including abnormal liver enzymes found on routine blood work.
- Rectal bleeding and anemia — evaluated promptly.
Screening and procedures
Colonoscopy is the screening that prevents colorectal cancer rather than only finding it, and it is recommended starting at 45 for most adults. Colonoscopy and upper endoscopy are performed in our ambulatory surgery center, so you are seen, scoped, and followed up by the same practice.
Lab work and imaging are done in the building, which usually removes a round of scheduling before the procedure.
When to see a gastroenterologist
Start with your primary care provider, who can refer you on if you have:
- Persistent abdominal pain or cramping.
- Chronic heartburn or acid reflux.
- Difficulty swallowing.
- Persistent nausea and vomiting.
- Chronic diarrhea or constipation.
- Blood in the stool, or black, tarry stools.
- Unexplained weight loss.
- Bloating and excessive gas.
- A change in bowel habits lasting more than a few weeks.
Digestive care is provided by Dr. Chapalamadugu and our team of gastroenterology specialists.
