Thyroid ultrasound examines the gland in the front of the neck. It is the study that characterizes a nodule found on examination or on abnormal blood work.

What it shows

• Nodules — size, structure, and the features that determine whether biopsy is warranted.
• Gland enlargement — goiter and inflammatory changes.
• Change over time — repeat imaging compared against your prior studies here.
