Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
OCT produces a cross-sectional scan of the retina, showing its layers in detail comparable to a microscope. It detects change well before a patient notices any difference in vision.
What it detects
- Diabetic macular edema — fluid in the retina from diabetes, caught early.
- Macular degeneration — structural change tracked scan to scan.
- Glaucoma damage — thinning of the nerve fiber layer before visual field loss appears.
Scanning takes seconds, requires no contact with the eye, and each study is compared against your previous ones.
