Electroencephalography (EEG)

An EEG records electrical activity in the brain through sensors placed on the scalp. Nothing is injected and nothing is felt.

When it is ordered

  • Seizure evaluation — confirming a diagnosis and identifying the seizure type.
  • Spells of unclear cause — episodes of staring, confusion, or loss of awareness.
  • Medication decisions — supporting choices about starting, changing, or tapering therapy.

The recording is interpreted by our neurology providers and discussed with you directly, along with what it means for driving, work, and daily activity.
