Colposcopy
Colposcopy
Colposcopy is the next step after an abnormal Pap test. A lighted magnifying instrument examines the cervix closely, and tissue is sampled if anything looks abnormal.
What to expect
- Similar to a Pap test — performed in the office, taking about fifteen minutes.
- Targeted biopsy — small samples taken only from areas of concern.
- Clear next steps — results reviewed with you along with the follow-up interval.
Most abnormal Pap results do not turn out to be cancer, and colposcopy is how that is established quickly rather than waited out.
